  Constitutional Undercooling - Simulation     2 of 5

Note that a practical upper limit for the thermal gradient, G, is about 10 K/mm.

By substitution of appropriate values into this equation, or by running the simulation, it will soon become apparent that, unless C0 is extremely low (highly pure material), this velocity is very low - i.e. constitutional undercooling is very difficult to avoid.

have a go! Explore the simulation parameters to see under which condition the constitutional undercooling may occur.
