  • Explain how a plane front reaches down to cells and dendrites.
  • Predict the scale of the primary arm spacing, using the Mullins & Sekerka equation.
  • Appreciate that dendrites tend to grow along certain crystallographic directions.
  • Relate occurence of easy growth directions to development of a columnal grainstructure.
